Goins Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings states that Mr. Jackson is first listed in the city directory in 1833. He is listed in 1840 to 1851 as a "surgical instrument maker." In 1855 and 1856 as a "cutler". This company manufactured "Bowie" type knives, among other kinds of cutlery. This knife has the style of Mr. Jackson's Bowie Knife Works (ebony pinned handle, and appearance).
