    Description

    U.S. Model 1860 Roby Cavalry Sword measuring 40-1/2" overall with a blade length of 34-1/2". Blade shows much original finish with scattered age patina, wear, no chips or sharpening.  Double fullered blade/blood groove.  Blade and handle are tight with no looseness. The wire is missing on the grip, with some scattered leather loss.  Scabbard is nickeled with a soft scattered age patina, rust. and is dent free.  Some old period faded black paint on the top of guard area and on some of the branches/handle.  Ricasso area of blade partially marked with the "ROBY Chelmsford" in an a half circle, opposite side marked, US 1863. "3" is faded but can see the bottom area. The knuckle bow on the back is stamped "84" and "T.F.B." on the opposite side.  C. Roby & Co were Sword Cutlers who were based out of Massachusetts and made Civil War Swords.  A good example of an original Civil War Sword.  See photos for further details, clarification and condition.
