CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE D GUARD BOWIE KNIFE SHORT SWORD ID"D
    MISSISSIPPI
Very Rare & Unique Civil War Confederate Double D-Guard Bowie Knife
    /
    Artillery Sword
Identified to Private E. Humphreys, Co. K.,
1st Mississippi Light Artillery (Abbay's Battery).
This is a fantastic sword of unusual form.
It is made in the typical style of a D-Guard fighting knife but is more the size of a short sword or saber.
    Sizes :
It measures 32 1/4” long overall and features a 27 5/8” forged blade.
It was originally made as a double-D guard with a second guard covering the right side of the hand which
was removed during the period (note the holes on the ends where the guard was attached).
    Over-sized
wood handles are riveted through the tang &
carved “E-HUMPHREYS” with an “X” or “K” carved below.
Private E. Humphreys enlisted with Company K of the 1st Mississippi Light Artillery on May 7th 1862.
The regiment saw action throughout the entire Vicksburg campaign &
surrendered after the battle on July 4th 1863.
    Wonderful untouched patina throughout.
The base of the blade is additionally stamped "
    C.S
    ".
