    Description

    U.S. Model 1808/1812 Socket Bayonet
This is an original U.S. Model 1808/1812 Socket Bayonet made for the U.S. Flintlock Musket Model 1808 and possibly a transition bayonet for the Model 1812 long arm. The triangular blade style is of the Model 1795 but the bayonet has a thicker neck configuration like the model 1808 or the Model 1812 Bayonet. The bayonet exhibits a spaer shape and has no locking ring at the socket. This bayonet is 20” long overall with a 16-1/4” long blade. The bayonet has a 3-1/4” long socket and a “JBUS” is stamped into the flat shank. The letters “JB” are slightly smaller and likely identify the government inspector. The blade bears a mottled gray finish with scattered areas of dark oxidation and peppery pitting overall. There are no edge nicks on the blade. The blade has a 9” long flute at the tip area.
