    Description

US Civil War Model 1840 Ames Musicians Sword. The ricasso is marked "N.P. Ames", over "Cabotville", over "1847" and on the reverse "US", over "N.W.P.". The side of the knuckle guard is marked "W.A.T." and on the reverse is "N.W.P.", there is also what looks like the roman numeral "XIV". The brass grip will move a small amount if you force it and the guard is tight. The blade is straight, unsharpened although the tip is sharp, and there are small age spots scattered throughout. Washer is intact. Length of the blade is 28" (13/16" wide and 1/4" thick) and overall the sword is 34 1/4".
Only 500 of these 1847's were made.
