    Description

Featured in this auction is a really beautiful, vintage console bowl made by Fulper Pottery.  Apologies for the light reflections in the photos.  This piece has an art-deco rim shape with ten sides that tapers down to a smaller base.  This bowl is in excellent, near-perfect condition with only an occasional glaze pinhole as well as evidence of very-minor scratching from gentle use.  There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing and no repairs.  This large and heavy piece is almost 2-1/2" tall, about 9-1/4" wide at the shoulder, and about 7-3/4" wide at the top rim opening.  The base of the pottery is marked with Fulper's "racetrack" ink stamp dating the bowl to the mid-1920s.  According to "The Fulper Book" by Hibel, Hibel and DeFalco, this "ten-sided" bowl is shape #455 and is finished in their Leopard-Skin Crystalline glaze.  The use of crystals in the glaze is just spectacular!  The bowl has an aqua or seafoam-green underglaze that was fired with copper crystals and very-light splashes of black to achieve the "leopard-skin" look.  The glaze has an almost opalescent quality.  There is a small bit of glazed-over clay inside, and there are tiny glaze fleabites just at the base rim edge where it was ground to make the base flat.  The bowl is very clean both inside and out.  Check out all 10 photos!  This substantial console piece would be perfect for any Fulper or American art pottery collector.  Check out my other pottery listings!
